What is Da Vinci Surgery:

The Da Vinci Surgical System is used in procedures that treat a range of conditions: Bladder Cancer Colorectal Cancer Coronary Artery Disease Endometriosis Gynecologic Cancer Heavy Uterine Bleeding Kidney Disorders Kidney Cancer

When medication and non-invasive procedures are unable to relieve symptoms, surgery remains the accepted and most effective treatment for a range of gynecologic conditions. These include, but are not limited to, cervical and uterine cancer, uterine fibroids, endometriosis, uterine prolapse and menorrhagia or excessive bleeding.

JACK P. AYOUB, M.D. F.A.C.O.G.

Traditional open gynecologic surgery, using a large incision for access to the uterus and surrounding anatomy, has for many years been the standard approach to many gynecologic procedures. Yet with open surgery can come significant pain, trauma, a long recovery process and threat to surrounding organs and nerves. For women facing gynecologic surgery, the period of pain, discomfort and extended time away from normal daily activities that usually follows traditional surgery can understandably cause significant anxiety.

Fortunately, less invasive options are available. Some gynecologic procedures enable surgeons to access the target anatomy using a vaginal approach, which may not require an external incision. But for complex hysterectomies and other gynecologic procedures, robot-assisted surgery with the da Vinci® Surgical System may be the most effective, least invasive treatment option. Through tiny, 1-2 cm incisions, surgeons using the da Vinci System* can operate with greater precision and control, minimizing the pain and risk associated with large incisions while increasing the likelihood of a fast recovery and excellent clinical outcomes.

Testimonials

“I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you! You did an amazing job with my robotic hysterectomy! One-week post-op and the worst thing was having to rest and take it easy. I feel great and never had to take any pain medicine. Normally when people hear the word hysterectomy, they think of weeks upon weeks of recovery time. The robotic procedure was amazing, and the recovery has been a breeze. Thank you so much for taking the time to help me understand my options and what would be best for my long-term health. You are an incredible doctor and genuinely care about the well-being of your patients!”

“My name is Joan and I’m from Northern Virginia. After I had my regular appointment with Dr. Ayoub, it was determined that I needed a full hysterectomy and some virginal reconstruction. I do not have any disease; I am 62 years old and post menopausal.

Dr Ayoub told me, “This is not your mother’s hysterectomy.” He said he would use DaVinci Robotic surgery and it would be minimally invasive with an easier recovery. He would make four small incisions in my abdomen and perform the surgery through those incisions. He also needed to do some vaginal repair. He was very confident that this was the way to do the surgery, so I felt confident too.

I spoke with Amanda at his office. She was great. She worked to get my surgery scheduled so that I would be able to go on our family vacation 2 weeks after my surgery. It was planned that I would spend the night of my surgery in the hospital and go home the following day.

Except for the fact that I was very nervous about the surgery, everything went exactly as Dr. Ayoub had described. After I got to my hospital room, I was given some Percocet and then slept on and off the rest of the evening and night. The next morning, I was uncomfortable and had another Percocet. That afternoon I went home and rested and slept most of the night. I was not having any pain. Dr. Ayoub had prescribed 600 mg. of ibuprofen every 6 hours which I took. I had some discomfort but still no pain. The fourth day after the surgery I felt much better than I did before the surgery. I took no ibuprofen, because nothing was hurting me. I was very careful, and I took some short walks outside a couple times a day and also walked around in the house; then I would rest.

There was still no pain or problems. Everything that Dr. Ayoub told me was true. The DaVinci Robotics surgery was easier on my body and made my recovery much easier than if I’d had and “old fashioned” hysterectomy.

I was able to go away with my family and enjoyed our vacation. The only thing I missed was swimming in the ocean. I followed Dr. Ayoubs instructions, and my recovery has been going very well. I’m 5 weeks out from the surgery and feeling better than I have in a long time.

I would highly recommend Dr. Ayoub as an ob-gyn. If you need this type of surgery, be sure to speak to him. He did an excellent job and I’m very grateful for his expertise. Thank you Dr. Ayoub!”
