Vaginoplasty is an outpatient surgery that takes about one hour to complete. After the patient is fully awake from the anesthesia, she can go home and rest. Dr. Ayoub recommends adding some light physical activity slowly, and as the patient start feeling better, they will be able to resume her regular daily activities. Heavy lifting or exhausting exercise should wait until at least 3 weeks after the surgery.
As weeks go by, the redness and swelling will go away and the patient will start feeling normal again, says Dr. Ayoub. In 6 weeks, patient will be ready to resume normal sexual activities, he added.
