Prenatal Care Questions Answered

What is prenatal care?
Prenatal care is extremely important to pregnant women from before pregnancy to labor. If you live in Leesburg, Chantilly or anywhere in Loudoun County and you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant, schedule an appointment with Dr. Ayoub. Call our main office and let one of staff members schedule your visits during the course of your pregnancy.

Why do women need prenatal care?
Because it allows your OBGYN to monitor the progress of your pregnancy and the development of your child during the course of your pregnancy. Your visits to your OBGYN can strip off unnecessary complications and allow your doctor to identify any issues that may happen early on. Your OBGYN will also give you proper instructions on how you can provide your unborn child the best possible care.

How often do pregnant women need to see their OBGYN?
Normally, patients receive a schedule of the exams they need. Dr. Ayoub recommends that women receive an exam:

  • Once a month between four weeks and twenty eight
  • Twice a month between twenty eight and thirty six
  • Every week after thirty six weeks

As a general rule, women over the age of 35 and those with a high-risk pregnancy should see their OB more often to ensure that their health and their baby’s health are monitored.
