Coffee, Tea and Pregnancy

66Coffee is considered an important habit for so many people who like to begin their day with a cup or more, many people even have a few cups until afternoon or early evening.

Drinking coffee with balance should be fine and is acceptable, although, if someone is looking for a good alternative, there is a flavored one out there that gives same if not better feeling of relaxation that coffee does, with extra health benefits.

OBGYN doctors generally recommend decaffeinated products and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists suggest as 200 milligrams of caffeine max per day. The good news is tea tends to be better than coffee and it has a lot less caffeine, and pregnant women afford to have a few cups a day depending on how much caffeine each has.

In the United States, drinking tea comes in the 2nd spot in people’s daily routine, although in many other countries, especially in Europe, tea is in the first spot. Recently, doctors started recommending drinking tea and integrating tea in the person’s daily routine as a health alternative to coffee because tea has many health benefits.

Here are the top reason why you (especially pregnant women) should replace your cup of coffee with a cup of tea:

Tea can help metabolize sugar and may prevent diabetes.
Tea, and specifically green tea, is great at absorbing and digesting sugar. People with diabetes struggle with sugar metabolism. Green tea is proven to help, moreover, some studies have shown that tea and green tea can help in the weight loss and in improving bone density.

Tea is a good source of great antioxidants.
Recent researches have shown that the antioxidants in the tea can go help preventing many cancers including breast, ovarian, skin, lung, colon, stomach, liver prostate and more.

Less caffeine.
Many doctors now recommend that patients who have trouble sleeping or falling asleep stop drinking coffee and switch to tea. Although, tea has caffeine just like coffee, but overall tea has less caffeine than coffee by 2 t- 3 times less, and also tea comes caffeinated and non-caffeinated.

Tea has fluoride.
Tea is good for the teeth because it contains fluoride, which helps stop plaque from developing on the teeth and gums, moreover, a better result can be achieved when tea is unsweetened.

Tea offers good hydration.
Although coffee is a diuretic because of the high level of caffeine in it – which makes the person who drink coffee urinate more often, it’s still hard to count it as a healthy fluid for the body because it leaves the body faster when compared to tea. Tea may be caffeinated, but it generally contains less caffeine and is a good option to replace coffee.

It is recommended that patients and pregnant women should note that the benefits of tea can vary depending on the type of tea, although darker and green teas are the more beneficial varieties. The amount of sugar used in a cup of tea should also be taken into account.
