When should I see my OBGYN?

In some cases, women can rely on rely on the over-the-counter medicine to treat minor issues but in some situations it is necessary for women to visit their gynecologist. Even with your busy schedule it is very important to get an appointment with an OBGYN especially if you have one of the following situations:

Pain with urination
Difficulty urinating or pain could be a serious issue and signs of bladder infections, other signs include burning, repeated needs to urinate, blood in urine, and lower abdominal pain

Changes in menstrual cycle
There are different reasons for the change of menstrual cycle, and in many cases, it’s hormone-related, but for women who are in childbearing age, it’s important to rule out early pregnancy by visiting your OBGYN. Also, too frequent periods or heavy bleeding require a visit to an ob-gyn.

Abnormal vaginal discharge
Although it’s normal to have vaginal discharge but an unusual texture or color change may be a sign of a vaginal infection or maybe an STD. If you notice an abnormal vaginal discharge, do not wait, check with your OBGYN right away.

Yeast infection
If you have a recurring yeast infections more than three or four a year, you need to see your gynecologist and get screening for certain diseases, like diabetes or HIV.

Other situations like bloating that lasts more than two weeks, sharp pelvic pain, painful sex or spotting after sex should not be ignored and it is recommended that you get an appointment with your OBGYN right away as in most cases, over the counter medication or simply ignoring the issue may lead to other issues.
